Series X Shows Promise with First Glimpse of New Titles

Microsoft streamed their first lineup of future Xbox Series X titles for the next generation of Consoles last week. After the stream ended, Twitter users ran to the platform to express their views of what Microsoft presented. Needless to say, the reviews weren't exactly positive.

Microsoft had advertised “gameplay” for their new console, building hype towards their Thursday presentation. However, to the point of many Twitter user's arguments, Microsoft showed very little gameplay if any at all. Majority of what was shown was in-engine footage and trailers announcing the new console's titles. This left a large portion of the gaming community unsatisfied or in some cases upset. Even then, I can't help shake the feeling that as a community, we may have set the bar too high. Microsoft intended to give us only a glimpse of what's to come in the future, and to be honest the future looks great.

Everything that was shown will be optimized for the Series X, taking advantage of new capability such as 4k, 60fps, faster load times, etc. This should build a buzz around games with a focus on artfully crafted environments such as Call of the Sea. More importantly, older mechanics can be brought back if certain titles play their cards right. Dirt 5, for example, is bringing 4-player couch co-op back into relevancy, this is a mechanic that hasn't been seen in a major title in a surprisingly long time. Other titles like Yakuza: Like a Dragon and The Medium bring unique stories to the table that haven't really been seen before.

There's a lot to be excited about with what Microsoft has shown so far, and it looks like this is just the beginning of what they plan to show.
